The existing home had a significant personal art collection but lacked a space worthy of displaying it. The surrounding rooms felt disconnected and underutilized, limiting both daily function and the ability to entertain. The goal was to rework these spaces into a more cohesive environment—one that could showcase the collection while drawing in adjacent areas of the home and making them feel purposeful again. Bringing the style of the heart of the home up to the caliber of the art within it.

The space needed to feel more open and connected without losing the intimacy required for displaying art. Increasing daylight and strengthening the relationship to the existing courtyard became central to that effort. A restrained palette of natural materials helps blur the boundary between inside and out, visually extending the rooms into the landscape while creating a warmer, more inviting setting for both everyday use and entertaining.

//Result

The design transforms the heart of the home into a flexible, light-filled space shaped as much by the clients’ daily routines as by their eclectic art collection. Materiality and daylight do much of the work—natural finishes bring warmth and texture, while expanded openings draw the courtyard into the room and allow light to move deeper into the house. Rather than treating the artwork as something simply displayed within the space, the architecture creates a quiet backdrop for it, allowing the collection’s color, character, and personality to become part of the room itself. The result is a space equally comfortable serving everyday life or opening up for entertaining.
